Our Services

We provide a safe and caring environment for women and children facing domestic abuse and homelessness.

Our facility offers emergency short-term crisis accommodation tailored to the unique needs of women and children. We have a total of six self-contained units designed to accommodate families, providing a secure and private space for you and your children. In addition, we have five single bedrooms available. Our refuge is equipped with essential amenities to ensure your comfort and well-being, including a playground, playroom, and a communal area for single-room occupants.

You can stay at the Refuge for a duration of up to eight weeks. During your stay, our Support Workers will work with you to guide you through your journey to recovery. Here’s what you can expect:

Personalised Support Plan

Your journey begins with a one-on-one meeting with a Support Worker. Together, you will assess your needs and circumstances. This assessment forms the foundation of your personal support plan that involves:

  1. Risk and Safety Assessment: We will work with you to assess the level of risk you are facing and develop strategies to mitigate it effectively.
  2. Financial and Social Welfare Assistance & Advocacy: Our team is here to help you access financial assistance and social welfare programs that can provide stability during your transition.
  3. Signposting to Other Services: We can connect you with other specialised services and resources that may be beneficial for your situation, such as legal aid, counselling, or housing assistance.
  4. Legal Support: If you need support with your rights and the court system, our staff is available to support you through the process.
  5. Health and Well-being: We offer a range of services and support to address your physical and emotional needs, ensuring you can heal and thrive.

If you have children, we understand the unique challenges you may face. Our childcare support workers are here to assist you in assessing your children’s needs and developing a personalised support plan to ensure their well-being and development during your stay.

At DWCR, we understand that seeking refuge is not the only solution when you or your children are experiencing domestic violence. We offer an Outreach Support Service that will meet with you at a safe place of your choice. We can offer you support around your situation and the steps you can take to keep yourself safe, whether you decide to stay in the relationship or explore other options.
Our Outreach Support Service includes:

  1. General Advice: Our experienced team provides valuable advice tailored to your unique situation. We understand that every circumstance is different, and we are here to listen and guide you.
  2. Signposting to Other Services: We can connect you with other specialised services and resources that may be beneficial for your situation, such as legal aid, counselling, or housing assistance.
  3. Risk and Safety Assessment: We will work with you to assess the level of risk you may be facing and develop strategies to mitigate it effectively.
  4. Safety Planning: Together, we will create a personalized safety plan that takes into account your specific needs and concerns. This plan will empower you to make informed decisions about your future.
    One of our Outreach team members will arrange a confidential one-on-one appointment with you at a location that is safe and convenient for you. Your safety and privacy are of utmost importance to us, and we will ensure that the meeting takes place in a secure environment where you can openly discuss your concerns.

Our childhood support service offers a range of support options to ensure the well-being and development of your children:

  1. Morning Preschool Sessions: We provide engaging and educational morning preschool sessions to help your child develop essential skills while enjoying a fun and supportive atmosphere.
  2. Drop-in Sessions: Our drop-in sessions offer a flexible and welcoming space for children to socialize, play, and interact with peers under the supervision of our caring staff.
  3. Specialised Domestic Violence Work: We offer both one-on-one and group programs specifically tailored to help children address the effects of domestic violence and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
  4. 1:1 Therapeutic Sessions: Our qualified therapists are available for one-on-one therapeutic sessions, including play therapy, to help children process their emotions and experiences in a safe and confidential setting.
  5. Homework & Afterschool Activities: We provide support for homework and offer a variety of enriching afterschool activities to keep children engaged and stimulated.
  6. Supports for Mums: We offer assistance to mothers to ensure they can access appointments at the services and support they need while in refuge.
  7. Referral Pathways: We can connect children with external services when necessary, ensuring they receive comprehensive care and support.

The CourAGEus project is a dynamic initiative dedicated to working with young people both within schools and the broader communities in Drogheda and beyond.  Our primary aim id to ignite change by shifting attidudes and empowereing young people to address domestic and sexual violence within their peer groups.

The project provides support to young people through the delivery of a series of interactive workshops to help improve their understanding of domestic and sexual violence, to improve their emotional well-being and empower them to influence peers on the issue.

We firmly believe that knowledge is power, and through education, awareness, and open dialogue, we can make a difference. The CourAGEus Project provides crucial support to young people through a series of interactive workshops that are thoughtfully designed to enhance their understanding of domestic and sexual violence. Moreover, we aim to bolster emotional well-being and equip young individuals with the tools to influence their peers on this critical issue.

The Freedom Programme

The Freedom Programme is a comprehensive 12-week support program specifically designed for women who are experiencing domestic violence. In this program, participants will:

  • Gain Insight: Learn about healthy and unhealthy relationships, helping participants recognise the difference.
  • Understand Abusive Tactics: Explore the tactics commonly used in abusive relationships and how to identify them.
  • Early Warning Signs: Discover the early warning signs of abuse and how to respond to them.
  • Impact on Children: Understand the profound impact domestic abuse can have on children and strategies to mitigate it.

The overarching goal of The Freedom Programme is to empower victims and survivors by helping them make sense of their experiences and regain control over their lives. Removing abuse from their lives leads to significant improvements in their overall well-being.

Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP®)

WRAP® is a personalized wellness and recovery system rooted in the principle of self-determination. Our staff is trained to guide you through the WRAP® process, which can have a profound impact on your journey toward mental and emotional well-being. Through WRAP®, you can:

  • Decrease and Prevent Troubling Feelings: Gain tools and strategies to manage intrusive or troubling emotions and behaviours.
  • Increase Personal Empowerment: Take control of your wellness journey and build a sense of personal agency.
  • Improve Quality of Life: Achieve an improved quality of life by addressing and managing challenges effectively.
  • Pursue Life Goals and Dreams: Create a roadmap for achieving your life goals and aspirations.
