The impact you make

Volunteering in Drogheda’s Women’s Refuge has been a positive experience for me…

It has opened my eyes to the extent of Domestic Abuse in the local and wider community. I’ve witnessed the relentless dedication of the refuge’s employees, who show empathy, compassion, and encouragement to all residents and outreach service users.

I have received in-depth training in the refuge, which is priceless, particularly in understanding the effects of domestic abuse on children, which has really stood out for me.

The refuge’s support for both women and their children is crucial. Additionally, I’ve been moved by the generosity of our local community through their kind donations, big and small, which is truly humbling and gives me hope for the future.

Mary, Refuge Support Volunteer

I really enjoy volunteering with DWCR…

It is an organisation with an amazing purpose and focus, aiming to empower and support women and children towards better, self directed lives.

There is a fantastic team there who provide excellent professional support services for the women and children, and as a volunteer they support me in my role also; provide me with really good information about what we do, how we do it and we all work together, effectively and in partnership to achieve the very best services to people in need.

I feel part of something special, aiming to make a real difference to the lives, the experiences and possible futures of women and children in Drogheda who need our support and help, to be brave and make changes in their lives that will help achieve their potential. I am delighted to able to contribute back to my community and find my volunteer role highly satisfying.
