Why Someone would Stay In an Abusive Relationship.
- You love your partner
- They have threatened to kill you if you leave.
- You are afraid of them.
- You think it will get better.
- They have promised to change, and you want to believe them
- You think it is partially your fault because you did want to make them jealous
- You are afraid you won’t find another partner.
- You think they love you.
- When they are nice to you they are wonderful.
- You don’t want to be alone.
- You believe you can help them to change.
- You saw violence growing up and its not as bad as that.
- You feel that the extreme jealousy is a sign that they really loves you.
- They have never really “hurt you ” Just small bruises and you don’t really think that low level of violence is abuse.
- You feel sorry for them. No-one understands them like you.
- You have low self-esteem as a result of the abusive relationship.
- If you have children together,you are hesitant to separate the children from their Mother/Father.
