Legal Issues >    Evidence

Evidence that may be needed in court

If you are being abused in any way especially if it is by someone you do not live with, it is advisable to keep a note of dates and times of the abuse/calls/texts etc. Do not delete abusive texts or emails sent from an abusive person, save them and show them to the Gardai.

If you have been physically abused

If you have been to your G. P. or visited the hospital because of your injuries, it would be advisable to get copies of any photographs or charts, letters etc from them to bring with you. If you have been to the Gardai or refuge and had photographs, notes taken, bring copies with you. Letters or reports from Social Workers or other services you may have told of the abuse. Friends and family should only be used if they were actually present and saw abuse taking place.

Verbal /Emotional abuse

If you have visited your doctor because of mental distress caused by the abuse bring a letter with you from the doctor. Also provide evidence if possible of the effects on your children, from.social workers, public health nurses, teachers etc
